LICE CONVEYOR

Scurrying out of the woodwork after what sounds like an intense period of writing and experimentation, Bristol's LICE are back with a savage new track. Soaking up influences in their local area from techno-punk pioneers Giant Swan and Scalping to angular art-rock outfit The Naturals, 'Conveyor' veers violently away from LICE's demented, Western-leaning early work. Opening with and overblown bass line and pummelling drums, a glitchy sequence of robotic, ring-modulated guitars writhes between the gaps in vocalist Alastair Shuttleworth's slurred vocals, before a tension fuelled build-up gives way to a colossal chorus. Doused in delay Shuttleworth's lyrics remain astute and left-field, retelling the story of a fictional Shakespearian protagonist (The Conveyor) who commissions the destruction of mankind in a dystopian landscape. 'The Conveyor' arrives alongside news of LICE's first headline tour and as far as we can tell it's gonna be mega. Full dates here. -Holly Mullineaux
